The Furman Paladins (2-3, 1-0 SoCon) welcome their fellow SoCon opponents the UT Chattanooga Mocs (2-3, 1-1) at 2pm today in a battle for a chance to be the leaders in the SoCon early in the season. Both teams got out to rough starts to start their seasons but have rebounded and want to salvage their seasons today. Furman behind rookie QB #8 Trey Hedden and BAN #44 Luke Clark will be very instrumental to the Paladins getting the win today. UT Chattanooga will be hoping QB #9 Chase Artopoeus and T #0 Quay Wiggles will help them overcome the slow start to keep their top 25 ranking in the FCS polls.

Furman with allot of injuries as well as UT Chattanooga this week, and both will rely on several proven backups. Furman gets the ball first and will start at its 41-yard line. Furman after a penalty is able to get a first down and they now are at the Chatt 46-yard line and Hedden throws a huge interception and UT Chattanooga starts at the 21-yard line. Furman is able to hold the Mocs and will get the ball back.

Furman gets the ball back at its own 21-yard line heading left to right on the field. Furman once again throws a interception and the Mocs take over at its 45-yard line.UT Chattanooga is moving the ball and is down on the Furman 17-yard line. Mocs get a huge third down and run and its first and goal at the 2-yard line, and quickly get a score and its 7-0 Mocs over the Paladins with 7:55 left in the first quarter.

Furman will get the ball back on the 46-yard of UT line after a great run back by #1 Colton Hinton. Furman will need to answer the score with its own and not let this game get out of hand. Hedden has thrown two great runs, and Furman is at the 21-yard line as Hedden is running great against the Mocs. Furman is inside the red zone and plans to get points on this drive, as they are kept out of the end zone, and we will see the field goal team out and it’s a 37-yard field goal. Furman is now on the board as they are now down 7-3 with 4:07 left in the first quarter.

Furman is able to get the stop and gets the ball back in hopes of getting another score. They end up kicking away and the Mocs will start at their 34-yard line in the 2nd quarter. The Mocs are making their way down the field and are at the 26-yard line first down of Furman. Furman needs a huge stop, and the defense has been able to hold so far. Furman holds them to fourth down and the Mocs will try a field goal from 42-yard line. The score is now 10-3 Mocs are up 7 over the Paladins with 11:03 left in the first half.

The Paladins throw another interception and the Mocs will start the ball 45-yard line of Furman. Furman defense is struggling here in the first half, the hopes they can get into halftime without another touchdown. It is third down at the Furman 18-yard line for the Mocs, and they get the first down and its first and goal from the 8-yard line for the Mocs who are up 10-3 with 6:25 left in the half. A holding penalty puts the Mocs bact at the 18-yard line. The Mocs get a pass to the 9-yard line and its third down, they run and get a few, but its fourth down at the five-yard line. The field goal team is out and its good, it is 13-3 Mocs over the Paladins with 4:26 left in the half.

Furman will take over at the 25-yard line, they will need to get a score on this drive to keep it close. Furman’s luck has gone down as it fumbles the ball and the Moc’s will take over at the Furman 35-yard line. The Mocs throw a great pass and its First down at the 14-yard line, and we are at the 2-minute warning. The score is 13-3 here at Paladin stadium in front of a great crowd which is minus the student section which is out on break. The Mocs run it in for a touchdown and the Furman hopes are starting to fade as its 20-3 Mocs over the Paladins with 1:55 left before halftime.

Furman takes over at the 34-yard line and will hope to get in field goal range before the half ends. Furman is unable to get the ball to a first down and will kick away with 1:05 left in the game. The Mocs take over at the 11-yard line with under a minute to go. Its halftime and our score is 20-3 UT Chattanooga over the Furman Paladins here in Greenville.

The Mocs get the ball first and hit a huge pass play to start the second half and are at the Furman 28-yard line already. Furman needs to get another stop and hope to get out with just a field goal against them. It’s now first and goal at the 6-yard line of Furman, and they score a touchdown with 11:37 left in the third quarter its 27-3 Mocs over the Paladins here in Greenville.

Furman comes out with backup QB Carson Jones to start the third quarter; he is unable to get a first down, so the Paladins kick the ball back to the Mocs and they take over at their 28-yard line. The Mocs throw a 60+ yard pass for a touchdown and Furman is now down 34-3 with 9 minutes left in the third quarter.

Furman gets the ball, and Carson Jones leads them down the field, but Jones throws an interception that had everyone confused till the lineman crossed the goal line. UT Chattanooga is now up 41-3 over the home team Paladins as the fans are still in the stands supporting them till the end.

Furman gets the ball back at the 25-yard line and once again is unable to get a first down and punts away to the 24-yard line of the Mocs. Faced with a third down the Mocs throw for a first down at the 36-yard line. Furman is able to make the Moc’s punt and will now take over at the 14-yard line deep in their territory. Furman #1 Colton Hinton catches a huge pass by Jones, but it is called back due to a penalty. Furman gets a run and finally gets a first down when #7 gets great carry to end the quarter and its 41-3 as we head to the fourth.

Furman starts off the fourth at the 19-yard line first and ten, the best Coach Hendrix can hope for is a couple scores and stops and make this game closer than what it is now. Jones connects on yet another pass with #9 Hamilton for another first down, Furman is slowly getting a drive going and letting the defense rest. Then Jones connects to #33 Gavin Hall, and he runs it to the 28-yard line of the Mocs. Furman is now in the red zone and a first down at the 14-yard line. Furman gets a first down, and it is first and goal at the 3-yard line. Furman gets the touchdown when #7 Hicks takes it in and the score is 41-10 with just under 9 minutes left in the game.

Furman will kick off to the Moc’s and it is out of the endzone and the Mocs will take over at the 25-yard line. The Paladins in this drive by the Mocs have lost two defensive linemen, hopefully they are OK, but both carried to the medical tent. The Mocs get a first down after a long run and are in Furman territory at the 30-yard line. The Moc’s get yet another great run and its first and goal at the seven-yard line. Furman has the two-minute warning stop the clock and it will be a tough loss for the Paladins and almost put them out of the conference title race without help. Furman seems willing to let this game end and try to get out without any more injuries. The Mocs down the ball and refuse to score again and let this game finish where it is.
