SoCon Media Day PreSeason Honors

This past Tuesday at SoCon Media Day the Furman Paladins was represented in many categories and will look to add more as the season begins on August 31st at Ole Miss at 7pm. The Paladins lost several key veteran players last year, but bring in allot of speed to a defense that was already stingy.

Furman put 1 player on First Team Offense (OL Luke Petit), 1 on First Team Defense (DL Xavier Stephens) and 2 on First Team Special Teams (PK Ian Williams, RS Colton Hinton). Furman then put 2 players on Second Team Offense (RB Grant Robinson, WR Joshua Harris) 2 on Second Team Defense (LB Luke Clarke, LB Evan DiMaggio)

Furman, starts at Ole Miss a team who Furman is 1-0 against, though it was 1924 the last time the two teams played at Furman. Furman then takes on Charleston Southern who they are also unbeaten against at 2-0 with the last time played 2022. Interesting enough Clay Hendrix is 2-0 vs CSU in his career. Furman doesn’t have a great record versus Stetson at 0-2 which was back in 1952. Furman is 8-7 versus its next opponent William and Mary which goes back to 2000 when Furman won, last time W&M won was 1994.

Furman then is 14-12 against Samford with the last game going to Furman last year 27-21. Samford was able to get the win the year before 34-27. The next team Citadel has not played Furman well over the years and has a 63-37-1 record versus the Paladins. Furman plays UT Chattanooga next and holds a 33-21 record versus the Mocs all time with Furman winning last years contest 26-7. Western Carolina then comes to town with a 13-36 record versus Furman, and Furman took the win last year at WCU 29-17.

VMI as those before has a losing record versus Furman in the past 10-31 with a loss at Furman last year 37-3. The next team up is the conference rival in Wofford from right up I85, yet Furman also holds the winning record at 56-34-7 all time versus the Terriers. Furman then battles another western foe in ETSU, a team Furman beat last year in a nail biter 16-8 at Furman. Furman then closes out its regular season versus Mercer Bears who are 12-8-2 against Furman all time, with Furman getting the win last year 38-14. That being said, we all know last year means nothing when the game starts on the field this year, as Head Coach Clay Hendrix’s will have his group ready to compete and win ball games as he loves to say.
