Six Furman Women’s Soccer Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-District Honors
Greenville, S.C. – Furman women’s soccer student-athletes Katie Bengough, Camryn Bolick, Hannah Farr, Ashlyn Goila, Helen Gutierrez, and Valentina Mosquera were selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, it was announced on Tuesday.
Bengough, a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., helped anchor the Furman defense at center back and started in all 19 matches. A native of Asheville, N.C., Bolick also played a key role on Furman’s back line while also adding a goal and two assists as a senior. Farr played in 19 matches and made 15 starts as a senior. The Lawrenceville, Ga., product scored the match-winning goal in a victory over North Greenville. Goila, from Delray Beach, Fla., played in all 19 matches in the midfielder. She totaled three assists and scored a goal in Furman’s SoCon quarterfinal round contest versus UNC Greensboro. Gutierrez, from Statesboro, Ga., started all 19 matches as a holding midfielder while Mosquera led the team in goals. The Hilton Head Island, S.C. native and junior scored six times and added two assists. Student-athletes on the all-district teams were required to maintain at least a 3.50 GPA, play in 90% of their team’s games or start at least 66% of the games. The Paladins finished the season at 7-5-7 overall and 3-1-5 in SoCon play. The 2023 Academic All-District® Men’s Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All-District® honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
