Furman Softball

The Furman Paladins (0-1) come into Game 2 of the Furman Invitational against the UT Martin Skyhawks (1-0) hoping to get back on track after last night’s 8-4 loss to S.C. State Bulldogs. The Bulldogs today lost to UT Martin so it will be interesting how Furman goes about playing the Skyhawks. Furman its starting pitcher Lauralee Scott on the mound hoping to lead them to a win against Tittle for the Skyhawks.

The Paladins are not able to get any runs in the first inning but are able to hold UT Martin to no runs which was not the issue last night. UT Martin also in their first game was able to score earlier so Furman is already doing well versus the Skyhawks. The Paladins are able to get to the top of the 3rd inning keeping the Skyhawks scoreless and Lauralee is pitching a great game.

Furman in the bottom of the third is able to get two hits and get the Skyhawks worried about a score. The Paladins with the bases loaded and two outs get a bases loaded wild pitch and get the first run of the night 1-0! The Paladins take their first lead of the young season and head to the top of the 4th with the lead over UT Martin Skyhawks.

Furman is able to once again shutdown the Skyhawks in the top of the 4th inning and now look to get back on the board once again. The Skyhawks are able to also keep the Paladins off the board with a quick throw out at third to end the inning and the Paladins hopes at another run.

The Paladins and UT Martin are both held to scoreless innings in the 5th as we head to the 6th with Lauralee Scott still on the mound, but UT Martin has turned to its closer Elly Eckrich. The Skyhawks are able to get a run in with no outs in the top of the 6th inning and we are tied up at 1-1. We head to the 7th inning still tied up 1-1 in a tight game, both teams playing great defense, Furman had two possible out of the park hits get denied by UT players.

The Paladins shut out the Skyhawks in the 7th inning and now its up to them to get a score as we head to the bottom with the heart of the lineup. The Paladins get 2 on base with 1 out and here we go with the fans standing up. We head to the top of the 8th inning tied still 1-1. The Paladins get a walk off hit and win the game 2-1.
