Paladins blow out the Bulldogs
Intro
We are here from Bon Secour Wellness Arena for the final home game of the season for the Furman Paladins. Huge stakes and seeding are on the line with an upcoming game at Wofford coming up this Saturday. Let’s see what the Citadel Bulldogs have for the Paladins this evening as we get ready to tip this game off.
First Half Highlights
PJay Smith opens up the scoring with a three pointer and Furman gets a few turnovers from Citadel. Per the usual, Furman jumps out to a big lead to start the game at 11-0 with 16:28 to go in the first half. Let’s see if they can continue this dominance with Citadel forcing a few turnovers also so far. Furman jumps up to 13-0 lead with 12 minutes to go before Citadel finally gets a foul call to get on the board. Defense for Furman has been the name of the game so far. House gets on the board with a three pointer and Molnar gets fouled. The score is 16-4 with 11:30 to go in the first half. We had several turnovers and several football scores in the first half. Furman led by 28-7 and 31-7 and took a halftime lead of 44-11 to the halftime locker room. Tom House is the leading scorer with 15 points. Citadel was only shooting 10% from FG range late in the first half and are still struggling.
Second Half Highlights
PJay Smith and Nick Anderson get Furman going early in the second half as the score is now 50-15 with 18 to go in the second half. The scoring has slowed down a bit for Furman as they look to ride out this large lead and get a victory in SoCon play. Citadel makes one of two free throws to bring the score to 50-16 with 16:35 to go as Cooper Bowser gets a bucket and the foul. PJay Smith makes another shot to bring the score to 55-16 at the first media timeout in the second half. Johnston makes one of two free throws, and Citadel gets fouled on the other end making both free throws. The score is 57-18 with 14:20 to go in the second half. House gets ran over in the lane, but the foul is called on him. Timeout on the court for an official review. After review, the foul call is reversed on House, and he gets to shoot two free throws and makes one of two. Furman seems to be just trying to get to the end of this game with a commanding 40-point lead. Tom House makes another three for the Dins as Furman is up 67-22 with 10:50 to go in the second half. Hien joins the show making a three for Furman after Christian Moore for Citadel makes one and the score is 75-31 with 8:30 to go in the second half. VanderWal gets back-to-back offensive rebounds but Furman can’t capitalize but the score remains 77-36 with 5:56 to go. Furman continues to dominate Citadel as it is 82-36 with 2:55 to go in the game. The stat sheet is getting deep for the Dins this evening as literally almost everyone has scored. A group of fans were chanting they want Tillman and they got it here as time is winding down in the second half. Furman will comfortably win this game this evening 85-42.
