The Furman Paladins Women’s Soccer (8-5-3, 4-1-2 SoCon) welcomes to town the Western Carolina Catamounts to Eugene Stone Stadium for a possible top two teams in the SoCon matchup in the playoffs. Furman comes in hoping to finish off strong at its last home game of the year, while Western wants to end their streak and also take over the top spot for good.

Western starts out testing the Furman defense with at the halfway point 6 shots on goal to Furman with 0 but Reese DeJong having 2 huge saves on goal. Ten minutes to go in the first half and Furman is still 0-0 with Western with only one shot on goal to 7 by Western. We get we are at halftime of a 0-0 shutout and the Furman defense being tested one wave after another by Western Carolina. Halftime stats are as follows: Furman 3 shots on goal to 11 by Western, Furman 3 fouls to Western 9, Furman with 4 saves on goal, and Furman with 1 corner kick to Western with 5.

This had turned into a true cat fight between these two teams tonight, and the fans are getting treated to a great game. Western Carolina strikes first with #29 getting the goal and its 1-0 Catamounts over the Paladins. The Furman defense gave up the goal in the 54th minute of the game, the defense played well, and Reese gave her best, but it just wasn’t enough.

Western Carolina at the 11-minute mark left in the game scores a goal when #19 assisted by #29 gets a goal and makes the score 2-0 Catamounts. Time is running out for Furman to get back in this game, the defense has been giving a great effort but Western has been just too much. Western has had 14 shots on goal to Furman having 4 so far with 8 minutes left in the game.

The game comes down to Western Carolina just giving to much offensive power for Furman to handle and the Paladins take a 2-0 loss at Eugene Stone Stadium.
