Furman Team 25'

The softball season is upon us, and we start the season with the Furman Invitational putting the Furman Paladins (0-0) versus the South Carolina State Bulldogs (0-0) at a renovated Pepsi Stadium on the campus of Furman.

Furman will be replacing major roster positions with true freshman as we get to know what the team will look like this year. The Bulldogs of S.C. State are also in a get to know the team with changes all across the lineup. Furman will also host during the weekend, UT Martin, Stonehill, and Evansville this weekend.

Furman started the season off with a error that leads to a score in the first inning, but they closed it out before another run could score. The Paladins then got an error on its first play of the season which led to a two-run inning for the Paladins, and they head into the second inning leading 2-1. Both teams were able to get a scoreless second inning to head to the third with the top of the lineup on both teams up.

The Bulldogs are able to drive in a run and make the third inning a win as they tie it up 2-2, as Furman is unable to get runs after leaving runners on base. The Paladins in the 4th inning give up two big runs when the Bulldogs get a triple and bring in two runs to make it 4-2. The Paladins then change out pitchers as 00 Emme Buzhardt is replaced by 10 Angelina Ricciardi who gets out of the inning on a double play. Furman is once again held off the scoreboard and it’s still 4-2 heading into the 5th inning.

The Bulldogs add two more runs in the 5th and shut out the Paladins again, leaving a runner on base, as the game is coming close to a end. Furman has two more innings to get back in the game, but the Bulldogs are holding steady with great pitching and solid defense.

Furman finally is able to get a 3 up 3 down inning and shut out the Bulldogs and now turns to its offense to get it back in the game as its still 6-2. The Bulldogs are still using their starting pitcher who struggled early but has since been solid. Furman threatens but is unable to get the two runners on base in so we head to the top of the 7th inning.

The 7th inning brings more for the Bulldogs as they get yet another 2 runs and now its 8-2 S.C. State Bulldogs over the host Furman Paladins.
