Furman football player Bryce Stanfield hospitalized, in critical condition after suffering “medical emergency”

Furman Paladin football player Bryce Stanfield was hospitalized after suffering a medical emergency in practice, Furman head coach Clay Hendrix announced on Wednesday afternoon.

“The thoughts and prayers of Furman’s entire football program and university community are with Bryce and his family at this time,” said Hendrix.

In a later message to the students, the university announced that Stanfield was in critical condition, saying “[Bryce] is currently at Greenville Memorial Hospital in critical condition and on life support.”

The school went on to ask that students not gather at the hospital to respect the limited space and the Stanfield family, according to WFAA 8.

Since the situation was made public, students of Furman, alumni, and Stanfield’s own teammates have been taking to social media to let Stanfield and his family know that they are in their prayers.

At 9:18 PM EST on Wednesday evening, a post was made from Teri Stanfield’s (Bryce’s mother) Facebook account by a family friend, asking for continued prayer for Bryce.

“Teri and Fred and Bryce are so thankful for all the prayers and love! They are definitely felt and appreciated. Please continue to pray for this amazing family,” said the family friend, who identified herself as April, a close friend of the Stanfield family.
