Mercer tops Furman in mid-week MBB action as Paladins slip back to .500

The Furman Paladins Men’s basketball squad hit the road to take on the Mercer Bears in Wednesday night Southern Conference action.

The Paladins (12-12, 6-5) caught the short end of the proverbial stick on the road in Macon, GA, falling 78-69 to fall back to the .500 mark for the first time since early January. On the other side of the coin, the Bears (11-13, 4-7) successfully defended their home floor against the Paladins to grab their third win in their last four games.

Furman grabbed the lead early in the contest and held the advantage for the majority of the first half along with a good chunk of the second. However, the Bears roared back, taking the lead back midway through the second half and holding the advantage for the rest of the way.

Marcus Foster led the Paladins with 19 points and 9 boards, both team highs. Alex Williams contributed 15 points for Furman while Tyrese Hughey added 10 points of his own.

Mercer’s Jalyn Mcreary spearheaded the Bears victorious effort with 28 points and 8 rebounds while Caleb Hunter added 14 more for Mercer.

The Paladins will return to action on Saturday as they are set to travel to ETSU to face the Buccaneers in Johnson City, TN with tipoff slated for 6 PM EST on CBS Sports Network.
