Furman point guard PJay Smith Jr. has been selected as the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday afternoon by the league office.


 
The LaVergne, Tenn., native, who missed Wednesday’s victory over Montreat due to injury, returned to the Paladin lineup on Saturday and totaled 25 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals in Furman’s 77-63 road win at Harvard. Smith went 8-for-11 from the field, including 5-of-7 behind the arc, and connected on all four of his free throw attempts to eclipse the 20-point plateau for the fifth time in 11 games this season.


A senior, Smith has averaged 17.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.6 steals per game while playing in 11 of Furman’s first 13 games. He ranks seventh in the country shooting 50.6% from behind the arc and eighth in the nation making 3.73 three-point baskets per game. The SoCon Player of the Week citation is the third of the season for Smith.
