Furman Women’s soccer opens SoCon play with a scoreless draw vs ETSU

The Furman Paladins Women’s soccer team hosted the East Tennessee State Buccaneers in the first game of 2023 Southern Conference play on Thursday evening. The Paladins (4-3-2, 0-0-1) were in lockstep with the Buccaneers (4-1-4, 0-0-1) for the duration of the contest which ended in a scoreless draw.

Neither squad could muster much offense as Furman only managed three shots on goal while ETSU garnered only two shots on goal.

The defense was the story of the match, as the goalkeepers for both teams kept the opposition from cracking the scoreboard.

It was the third shutout of the season for Furman senior goalkeeper Addison Corn, who notched two saves in the contest. Likewise, ETSU keeper Ashton Blair also was credited with two saves.

The Paladins will return to the field on Sunday when they hit the road to face Western Carolina in Cullowhee, N.C. For more coverage of Furman Paladins Athletics, be sure to follow the Furman Joust podcast on Twitter/X, or visit our website at furmanjoust.com.
