The Furman Paladins Women’s soccer (2-4-0) returns to Seagraves Field after a huge win on the road to face the UNC Asheville Bulldogs (1-3-1) in a non-conference showdown. Both teams of course looking to better their record before conference play. Furman returns a much-needed starter in Nieva Gaither Forward who has been out injured the start of the young season.


The Paladins and Bulldogs both started off the game in each other’s side of the field and Furman gets the first corner kick but doesn’t get the header for the score. At the 25-minute mark left in the half, still 0-0 Furman with two corner kicks both denied.

Furman is really getting some great chances to score but passing and offsides are costing them chances. The Bulldogs get the board first after a stolen pass and #21 makes it 1-0 UNC Asheville. Furman allowed a bad pass in front of its goal to turn into a great goal by Ava Bjorkman-Tracy.

We are at halftime and the stats are Furman with 3 shots on goal, 4 corner kicks, 0 saves, 2 fouls. Furman will have to take better advantages of being at the Bulldogs side of the field.

After the half #26 Jenny Jacobson gets a goal to tie the game at the 41-minute mark and the Paladins are 1-1 with the Bulldogs. Furman made sure to come out firing and made sure to finish with that goal.

Furman gets another goal again as #6Helen Gutierrez at the 38th minute left in the game puts Furman ahead 2-1 and the fans are having a great time as Furman is really after the ball now.

Furman has out shot UNC Bulldogs 9-1 since halftime as whatever Coach Burr said at halftime has lite a fire in the team. We are at 6 minutes left in the game and we are still at 2-1 with the shots on goal being Furman 13 shots to UNC Asheville 8 so far with 6 corner kicks for the Paladins vs 3 for UNC Asheville. Furman holds on and gets the win!
