Tonight at 7pm Furman Paladins start the season against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles here at Paladin stadium. Furman comes into the year as the favorite to win the SoCon. The Tennesse Tech is apart of the Ohio Valley Conference and is in a rebuilding stage and even though they come in as underdogs, they plan to try to upset the Paladins on their home turf.

Here are some photos from pregame workouts as we close in on tonight’s game.

The teams are on the field, and we have the toss over with as Furman will kick off to Tennessee Tech to start the game as a great crowd is on hand for this contest. After Tennessee got to the 41 the Paladins get a huge interception to make it 7-0 Furman when #1 Travis Blackshire ran it back 42 yards.

Travis Blackshire a 5’11 CB Grad at Furman was able to read the QB and step in front of the WR and had a clear shot to the end zone.

Time out on the field as Tennessee Tech wants to think about the 3rd down ahead. Tech is able to get the first down to the Furman 39. Tennessee Tech lines up for a field goal and gets it in and its 7-3 Furman still in the lead. The offense will now take the field for the first time tonight, and it will be Tyler Huff leading the Paladins out on the field. Huff is able to lead the first series to a first down after a 7-yard run and the Paladins are on the move. Huff on the next play loses yard on a sack and its 3-16. He is able to pick up 9 yards, but Furman will have to punt the ball away and gets Tennessee Tech down to the 14-yard line.

Tennessee Tech comes out and calls a time out as it seemed like someone did not get the play correctly, and that’s two timeouts here in the first quarter of play. Yet come out and get a first down quickly off the time out. Tech is able to get a 1st down off a 4th downplay to extend its plays versus Furman. The Paladins are able to get a Fumble recovery at the start of the second quarter and its First Down Paladins. Furman takes the ball and Domnick Roberto gets a first down Paladins. Huff goes back and gets a first down pass then gets another great pass to make it 2nd and 4. Tennessee Tech gets an interception and its ran back to the 22-yard line, but a penalty puts it back to the 14-yard line.

The Defense gets a huge interception and Furman takes back over at the 17-yard line. The Paladins get a first down and its Roberto full steam ahead with the ball to the 6 yard line. The Paladins take a time out on 2nd and goal.

Furman with an end around gets a Furman a touchdown #11 Kyndel Dean gets the ball in the end zone, and we are at 14-3 Paladins. Great time out play drawn up and Furman is ready to kick off to the Golden Eagles who have moved the ball well vs Furman but have had bad luck getting scores.

Tennessee Tech starts off at the 26 after a fair catch looking to establish a scoring drive before the half ends and get back in this game. Furman is able to hold and its 4th down and the Golden eagles will kick it away to Furman. Joshua Harris #2 gets the ball and runs it all the back to the 45-yard line of Tennessee Tech.

Furman gets two great plays and its now first and goal at the 9 rad line for the Paladins. Domnick Roberto gets a touchdown run and its 21-0 after the kick and with 4min and 32 seconds left Furman is up by 18 points over Tennessee Tech as we are now FU after dark in this game. Furman defense to be letting tech get small amounts of yards but also Tech is getting down the field fast with a minute left in the half. Furman calls a defensive time out and its second down Tech at the Paladins 22-yard line. Tennessee Tech gets a touchdown off the time out and its 21-10 with 46 seconds left in the half.

Furman will get the ball with 46 seconds left and the kick is off, and it’s taken back to the 36-yard line and Furman will start from there. The Paladins take their first timeout of the half and leaves them two with 33 seconds left in the half ball at the 41. Paladins get a first down at the 45, they throw a deep pass and almost intercepted. Furman gets a pass up to the 46 of Tech and takes a time out with 9 seconds left in the half. Furman is able to get a first down to the 40-yard line and calls its final timeout and it’s a field goal try for 58 yards missed by a few yards, but Furman is up 21-10 at halftime.

After the half Furman is unable to get a first down and they put away and place Tech at the 20-yard line. Tech is able to get a first down and move the ball again from the Furman 32. Furman is able to stop them and its Tech punting the ball away. Tennessee gets stopped on 3rd down at the Furman 48-yard line and its 4th down Golden Eagles. They kick it out of the end zone and its first down Furman at the 25-yard line as the offense needs to get on track and let the defense rest to be able to win this game.

Furman gets its first 1st down of the quarter and now are on the move for the first time in a while but ends after Huff has to throw it away to avoid a sack. They punt it away and get Tech back on the 9-yard line. The ball is fumbled and after a long time out Furman is given the ball on a fumble and penalty. Furman gets the ball on the 12-yard line. Furman is unable to get a first down and it’s the field goal unit on to kick and its good as Furman extends its lead 24-10.

Furman kicks off to the Golden Eagles to a fair catch and Tennessee Tech takes over at the 25 and with 3:55 remaining in the 3rd quarter. Tech after 3 tries goes for it on a fourth down and comes up short and Furman stops them and its first down Paladins at the 34yard line. Furman runs the ball down to the 6-yard line so it is first and goal Furman Paladins!

Furman is unable to get in the end zone due to a fumble and Tennessee Tech takes back over at the 16. Tech nails a pass and is up to the 48 and is on a roll. Thats the end of the 3rd quarter with Furman leading 24-10 with Tech driving the ball. Tech ends up kicking the ball and Furman will start deep in its own end and head up the field. Huff makes a awesome move and gets a first down to the 34-yard line. Roberto takes the ball to the 40 and its 3/4. Huff throws a bomb and is caught by #3 Ben Ferguson at the Tech 15. Furman takes the ball and gets to the 5-yard line and its first and goal. Domnick Roberto scores another touchdown and its 31-10 Furman scores on a 94-yard drive.

So Furman with 7:34 left in the game has a commanding 31-10 lead as they kick it off to Tennessee Tech and Tech will take the ball up to the 30-yard line where it will start. Tech is trying to be able to come back and it is 4th down and it is a pick 6 for a touchdown #58 Dan Scianna 67 yards and Furman is now up 38-10 with 5:38 to go in the game.

Furman drills another deep kick and Tech will start at its 25-yard line with a new QB #5 and he throws a interception to #15 Jack Roach at the 40-yard line. Furman changes QBs and it is Carson Jones in at QB. Furman now gets another TD when #21 Jayquan Smith gets in the end zone and its 45-10 with 2:41 left in the game.

Tennessee Tech takes the ball at the 25 after a kick out of the end zone as it is a great time in the Furman stands as 2 and a half minutes left in the game to play. Furman gets the ball back and a huge run play #7 Myione Hicks and the game is over with a great win 45-10.
