Furman Softball Travels up I85 to USC Upstate Spartans at Cyrill Stadium Game 1
Furman Softball (16-14, 3-0 SoCon) sets its sites on going 8-0 streak, and USC Upstate (14-14, 4-2 BigSouth ) looks to stop it in its tracks.
The game starts with Furman getting two on base but are not able to get anybody to score, so we head to the bottom of the first. The Spartans strike first make the score 1-0 in the bottom of the first after a shot to centerfield scores #71. The Spartans get another run in the inning and its 2-0 heading to the second inning.
The second inning for the Paladins is much like the first, as the bases get loaded, but the Lady Paladins are not able to get a run in, so we head to the bottom of the second. Furman allows another run in the 2nd inning, so we are at 3-0 Spartans over the Lady Paladins as we head to the third.
In the top of the third, once again Furman has the bases loaded and two outs and is unable to get a run, as the Spartans seem to find a way to get the final out. The Furman fans that have showed up are so disappointed at this moment, but still have faith in the Lady Paladins to pull one out here in Game 1. The Spartans are up to bat and get a run and make it a 4-0 ball game.
Furman battles back in the top of the fourth inning and gets 2 runs to make it a 4-2 game and is giving the Spartans a battle here today after a scoring break through. The Spartans answer again as with two outs they get 2 runs on Furman and make their lead 6-2.
Lady Paladins in the top of the fifth inning are not able to get a run and are heading to the outfield hoping to stop the Spartans from scoring. So far today the USC Upstate Softball team has scored each inning. Spartans once again get a run and make the game 7-2.
Bottom of the sixth inning and Furman needs to keep the Spartans off the scoreboard and get runs in the seventh inning to get back in this game. The Paladins are able to shut out the Spartans in the sixth and we go to the seventh, if Furman doesn’t score 4 runs in this inning it’s over. The Paladins are a comeback team this year so we will see what happens.
The Paladins are not able to get any runs and we end with USC Upstate getting the win 7-3!
