Furman Softball Faces USC Upstate Game 2 After Disappointing Game 1 Loss
Game 2 for Furman Softball (16-15, 3-0 SoCon) versus the USC Upstate Spartans (15-14, 4-2 Big South) starts out with Furman once again getting bases runs on 2nd and 1st with one out, and ends with the Lady Paladins not being able to get runs in. We head to the bottom of the first 0-0. Spartans are shut out and we head to the second inning.
Furman gets runners on base but as in innings before is unable to get them in and we head to the bottom of the inning where Furman shuts down the Spartans and we head to the third inning with it tied 0-0.
Furman gives up a run in the bottom of the third and it is 1-0 Spartans take the lead in Game 2 of this double header Wednesday night. The Lady Paladins need to get the run back here in this inning as we head to the top of the 4th inning.
Furman in the top of the 5th inning gets a huge double by #12 DH Caitlin Goldwait, Lady Paladins needing a spark in this inning as the outs are becoming less. The Paladins had runners on 3rd and 2nd base but leave them stranded as we head to the bottom of the 5th inning down 2-0 to the Spartans.
Furman in the bottom of the 5th is able to send the Spartans packing and head to the top of the 6th inning with hopes of getting some runs down 2-0. Furman gets no runs and is running out of time as many players are getting playing time tonight in this non-conference slat. We head to the 7th inning with the Spartans adding another run and making the score 3-0.
Furman with some late inning magic gets a run and with no outs has runners on 2nd and 3rd base with a chance to tie this game or get the lead, and homerun Kiley Perry with runs on and its now Furman 4-3 for the first time tonight with the lead. Furman is now heading to the bottom of the 7th inning with Furman still ahead 4-3 with needing just 3 outs to win this game.
