Furman Softball Closes Out Night One Versus IUPUI in Invitational at Pepsi Stadium

Furman Softball get to face as been waiting all day to get to be on the field for their Invitational, and they first get to face IUPUI Jaguars at 7pm in front of a great crowd dealing with now a cold breeze. IUPUI steps up to the plate first and quickly gets two runs off an error by an outfielder, and it is 2-0. Furman does get the final out and now is up to bat and gets a runner on base with two outs. The Jags get the final out so Furman heads back out for the start of the second inning.

Furman is able to get three up and three down in the top of the second and now are up to bat and ready to get back those two runs. Furman falls short again of getting some runs in and we are still at 2-0 IUPUI leading heading to the top of the third inning. Furman gets out of the third inning with no runs or hits and now once again can cut into the 2-0 deficit they are down to IUPUI. once again, it’s a three up and three down innings for Furman. Furman gets great play from its team and gets out of the top of the fourth with just one hit against them. It’s still 2-0, and the Paladins need to get back the two runs they gave up in the first.

IUPUI gets the final out and we head to the fifth inning with Furman still behind and needing to get some runs with just a few shots at it left in the game. Furman will be back in action tomorrow for two games tomorrow afternoon starting at 4:30pm vs Towson, then 7pm vs Georgetown, followed by Lipscomb on Sunday at 2pm so make sure to come out and support your Furman athletes. Furman gets out of the fifth with no runs by the Jags and we are still at 2-0. Furman is not able to get any runs in the 5th, so we head to the 6th. Furman gets 3 quick outs, and we are at the bottom of the sixth inning.

Furman gets a run at first then a two-run homerun by Hannah Poole puts the Paladins ahead by one 3-2 as we have three outs to get the win. The fans out in center field near the scoreboard got a souvenir softball when Poole sent it flying out. Furman gets the first out and now it’s down to two outs to get the win and Furman has their closer in the game and one more out to go. Furman wins the game and we are 5-1!!
