Charlotte, N.C. – Anna Gore and Nieva Gaither each netted goals as Furman and Queens played to a 2-2 draw in women’s soccer exhibition action Saturday evening in Charlotte, N.C. After a scoreless first half, Shania Diaz and Maddie Massie helped setup Anna Gore for the go-ahead goal in the early portion of the second half. Sophomore Julie Galie fed a pass to All-SoCon selection Nieva Gaither for the Paladins second score of the match to forge the tie. “Once again, we were able to get playing time for everybody that dressed and we were able to score a couple of nice goals,” said Paladin head coach Andrew Burr. “Our focus will continue to be preparing for next Thursday’s opener at Presbyterian and getting a look at as many players as possible so we are at our best when Southern Conference play arrives.”

The Paladins and Royals ended the night with a penalty shootout, which was won by the Furman. Furman opens the 2023 regular season on Thursday when it travels to Clinton, S.C., to face the Presbyterian Blue Hose. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The Paladins host former Southern Conference rival Georgia Southern in the home opener on Sunday, August 20, at 3 p.m. at Stone Stadium.
