The Furman Women’s basketball team (11-7, 1-1 SoCon) takes a small trip up I-85 to take on its state rival in Wofford Terriers (9-7, 1-1 SoCon) in a huge match up of SoCon standings importance. Furman coming off a loss last week to UNC Greensboro and needing to get back to its winning ways.

Furman and Wofford both enter with a 1-1 record in the Southern Conference and tied for fourth place. The Paladins and head coach Pierre Curtis will be out to make statement against Wofford before heading home to have two games versus Samford Thursday and Mercer Saturday.

The game is set, the players are on the court, let’s get the game on the way. Wofford jumps out to a 5-0 lead when Furman is able to get its first points of the game after several back-and-forth turnovers by both sides. It is 8-2 in the first media timeout as Wofford leads the way. Kennedy Grier leads the way with 2 points, and Jada Session has 2 rebounds with 3 others having 1 a piece. It is 1:15 left in the first period and Wofford leads 12-8, Furman is fighting to keep the game close. Furman gets a basket and a foul and its 12-11 with 40 seconds left in the 1st period. The period is over, and Wofford leads 14-13, Furman had 9 second chance points, 4 points in the paint, and 8 points off the bench.

Furman takes its first lead at the 8:50 mark 18-16 the score in the game. Media timeout at 4:40 and Wofford leads 21-20, with Niveya Henley leading the way with 8 points 3 rebounds, 11 points off the bench, 12 second chance points, and 8 points in the paint for Furman.

The second period comes to an end with Wofford leading 34-29 after a last second shot by Furman going in. Furman has 16 points off the bench, 12 second chance points, 12 points in the paint, and 2 points off fast break. Niveya Henley still leads with 8 points and 3 rebounds, Sydney Ryan with 10 rebounds and 3 points, Jada session with 8 rebounds, and 5 points for Furman.

Furman was 0% missing all 14 3 pointers in the first half, shooting 31% from the field, and 58% from the free throw line. Coach Curtis has to get the ladies taking better shots in the second half to win this game versus a gutsy Wofford team. Furman at the first media timeout is down 43-34 as Wofford has made a point to go right at the Paladins and get them in foul trouble early.

The third period comes to a close with Furman draining two at the line and its 47-41, Furman with 16 points in the paint, 12 second chance points, and 18 points off the bench. Furman was 1-19 from 3-point range so far, 32% from the field, and 62% from the free throw line. Media Timeout with just under 6 minutes left in the game, it is 55-45 Wofford leading the Furman Paladins. Furman has 22 points of the bench, 15 second chance points, and 20 points off the bench. So far, it’s been a foul fest today, both teams getting hit with them, and Furman has been paying the price dearly.

The game is over and Furman falls to Wofford 69-51.
