Furman Paladins Men’s Basketball (6-9 0-2 SoCon) tonight will take on a foe it knows to well in rival Citadel Bulldogs (8-7 0-2 SoCon) in a battle to get back to the top and out of the bottom of SoCon rankings with both teams with zero wins and two loses.

Furman starts off hot and quickly builds up to a 14-8 lead by the first team media timeout with Alex Williams leading the way with 7 points and a assist, Tyrese Hughey has 5 points and a rebound. Both teams work a full court press, and Furman so far has theirs figured out and stays in the lead 19-10 with 14 minutes left in the first half.

Furman at the next media timeout has a commanding 21-13 lead behind some great ball passing and shooting, the team seems to have realized it’s time to show its a top team in the SoCon and ready to give the fans lots to cheer about. Furman at the 11:49 mark in the first half leads 24-15 over Citadel as both teams are playing at a high pace tonight.

We have yet another media timeout as its been the Alex Williams show with 16 points with still 9:40 to play in the half. Furman now leads 35-20 and the fans are getting rowdy in Timmons, as the heavyweight fight between these rivals keeps going. It’s a ten-point lead for Furman as Citadel calls a timeout with 7:42 left in the first half 35-25. The Paladins are leading 35-30 with 4 minutes in the half, as the Citadel has battled back to make it a 5-point game.

We are in the second half and Furman is leading 48-44 with 16:30 in the game. Media timeout and we are at Furman with a 50-45 lead with 15:42 left in the game. Furman with 20 points in the paint, 20 points off the bench, 4 second chance points and 3 points off the fast break. Alex Williams still leads all scorers with 16 points, PJay Smith has 10 points as we come out of the timeout.

Furman at the 11-minute mark leads 64-51 and the fans are going wild here at Timmons arena. Coach Richey really has the team playing well and being smart with the ball tonight for the most part. Alex Williams is having a huge night with 24 points so far with 8:33 left in the game. Carter Whitt has tied his career high with 10 assist and the Paladins are up 72-56 with just a little over 6 minutes left in the game.

Furman Paladins are leading 77-64 with 3:21 left in the game, and with that said 34 points in the paint, 22 points off the bench, 12 points off turnovers, and 7 second chance points, and 5 points off fast breaks. Alex Williams with 24 points and 3 assist, 3 players with 10 points apiece for Furman.

The score is still 77-64 with 2:10 left in the game as the Citadel uses its last timeout, and Furman seems ready to have a win tonight to help move into the win column in SoCon play versus a strong Citadel team which upset Notre Dame earlier this season. This game is over, and we have a score of 82-68 as Furman gets the win!
