Furman Paladins Men’s Basketball comes into tonight’s game versus the S.C. State Bulldogs needing to get on a winning streak as they start towards the end of the non-conference schedule, and work towards defending their SoCon title.

State quickly jumps out to a 5-0 lead, and Furman starts from behind to get the game going. Foster scores Furman’s first points and its 7-3. After the first media timeout its 5-7 Furman trailing S.C. State with 15:50 left in the half.

Out of the timeout, Furman ties it up 8-8, and gives the fans something to cheer about. Furman goes on a run of 9-0 and it’s a timeout SC State 14-8 Paladins on top with 13:29 in the half. Media timeout and its 14-14 tie as the Bulldogs have battled back to tie the game with 11 minutes left to play in the half. Alex Williams leads Furman with 6 points, Foster and Whitt with 3 points apiece. Foster and Hughey lead with 2 rebounds apiece for Furman in the game. So, after going on a 9-0 run, Furman has SC State to go on a run and the score is 22-14 and the Paladins have very sloppy under the basket, Coach Richey took a timeout to get the guys back under control and stop this run.

The Paladins now on a run as its 24-19 with the Bulldogs in front, both teams seem to be in a battle in the paint tonight. The score is 24-31 with 4 minutes left in the half and we have a foul on Furman and the Bulldogs shoot two. PJay Smith Jr. hits 2 big 3 pointers and the game is at a timeout as Furman battles back to a 30-33 score, only down by 3 is the Paladins.

Paladins come out of the timeout with 3 minutes left with PJay Smith leading with 9 points, and Alex Williams with 6 points, Foster still leads with 4 rebounds. We head into halftime with SC State ahead of Furman 36-35 as Furman closes the lead the Bulldogs had, and Coach Richey has to be happy how his team battled back from the two large deficits.

Furman in that half had 9 turnovers, 16 points in the half, 5 second chance points, 6 fast break points, and 19 points from the bench. The Paladins was also 6-19 from 3pt range 31.6 percent and shot 42.4 from the field 14-33. Alex Williams and PJay Smith led all scores on Furman with 9 points, Hien and Whitt had 5 points apiece also in the half. It’s the start of the second half as we finish up with halftime festivities and its Furman ball. We go to a media timeout and it’s the Paladins 45-40 with the lead!

Media timeout and it’s still 45-40 with SC State fixing to shoot two, Furman Williams and Smith with 12 points apiece and 2 assist. Foster with 7 points and 6 rebounds also in the game so far with 14 minutes left. Furman opens up a bigger lead as its now 55-46 Paladins now pulling away and giving a great defensive effort and the fans are loving it.

We are at a player injury timeout as #55 for the Bulldogs Davion Everett has blood coming from a hit to the face, and they are working on him. PJay Smith Jr. is on fire tonight, draining another 3 pointer and its 62-48 the Paladins in the lead.

Furman with just a little over 4 minutes to go leads 74-63 and the fans are enjoying the effort of the Paladins team versus the Bulldogs tonight. Media Timeout as we give you the stats up till now with 3:54 left in the game PJay Smith has 20 points, Marcus Foster with 16 points and Alex Smith with twelve. Furman with 15 points off turnovers, 42 points in the paint, 13 second chance points, 6 points off fast breaks, and the bench has scored 30 points tonight.

Under two minutes left and the score is 82-70 with Furman in the lead and holding on defensively versus this tough Bulldog team. Timeout on the court, and we have a chance to update you on the stats we have as Furman has 9 fouls to SC State 10 fouls with a 1:16 left.

The Furman Paladins will win tonight with a great performance by several Paladins, Markus Foster, PJay Smith, and Alex Williams. The final score is 86-78 ballgame.
