The Furman Paladins Men’s Basketball (12-10, 6-3 SoCon) comes into today’s game versus UNC Greensboro Spartans (16-6, 7-2 SoCon) after a huge away win at The Citadel this past week 82-79 in overtime.

Furman quickly jumps out to a 5-2 lead with 18 minutes in the first half after two great shots. Furman falls behind but quickly gets back in the game as we come to a media timeout 16-15 Paladins in the lead with 14.25 left in the first half.

Media timeout and Furman still holds a 1-point lead 21-20 with 11:25 left in the half. Furman is staying with the Spartans blow for blow. The next media timeout and Furman is down 31-27 with 8:45 left in the half. UNC Greensboro is staring to make key shots helping them stay ahead of Furman.

Media Timeout with 3:22 left and the Paladins 40-40 tie and the fans are on their feet and excitement is in the air at Timmons arena. We are at halftime and Furman has come back to take a 51-47 lead as the fans are up on their feet excited about what they are seeing.

Furman stats for the half are 11 on turnovers, points in the paint 18, 7 second chance points, 4 off fast breaks and 8 points off the bench. Leading scorer Markus Foster with 14 and 2 rebounds, JP Pegues has 11 points, and Alex Williams has 8 points. Furman was 59% from the field, 46% from 3-point range, and 100% from the free throw line. Coach Richey has to be pleased with his team and its poise during the first half of the game.

We come to the first timeout of the final half of play and its Furman ahead after UNC Greensboro tied the game up, its now 61-55 with 14:51 left to go. Furman also honored its 2024 Softball team and the 3 inductees into the Furman Hall of Fame. The Furman University leadership has done a great job in making the home games a way to show love for all its sports.

We are at a media timeout and the score is Furman up 65-64 with 11:56 left in the game. Timeout called by Furman with 7:05 left in the game and Furman is down 77-69 as UNC Greensboro has been playing tough and taking the Paladins out of its game plan. Media Timeout with 3:37 left in the game as Furman is down 84-80 and are fighting to get this game back to the Paladin favor.

Furman ties with 1:13 left in the game 87-87! The fans are going crazy and its a timeout by UNC Greensboro 1 minute left to play in the game all tied up. This game has been everything everyone expected lots of back and forth between the two teams, it’s going to be a wild finish. Final shot coming and a foul as time as run out on UNC Greensboro and the fans are all on their feet as the refs check to see the clock, this is going to be unreal events by the Paladins. They have put .6 on the clock and its Markus Foster shooting 2 points, he misses the first and we have another time out called. Here we go as UNC leads 89-87. Furman loses on that note as Foster misses both shots.

Final stats, Furman had 16 points on turnovers, 24 points in the paint, 10 second chance points, 6 fast break points, and 11 points off the bench. Furman shot 48% from FG, 40% from 3-point range, and 85% from free throw range.
