Furman Football Faces Kennesaw St. at Fifth Third Bank Stadium
Furman Paladins Football 1-1 heads into today’s game vs. Kennesaw St 1-1 ready to get rid of the loss vs SEC South Carolina Gamecocks last week, as Kennesaw St tries to also lose the loss last week from UTC.

Both teams come out in the first quarter looking good on defense both giving up some decent yardage but holding the other team from scoring. Kennesaw St towards the end of the first quarter has a pretty good drive going and decide to go for it on fourth down and two. The Paladins hold and Furman gets the ball on the Kennesaw 46-yard line.

The 1st Quarter ends with Furman driving and on the Owls 28-yard line 3rd and 10 so Coach Hendricks will have the field goal team ready in case they get stopped as it’s a 0-0 tie heading to the 2nd quarter.

The Owls with 13:02 get a touchdown on a 32-yard pass TD to #1 Gabriel Benyard catches and scores. The Paladins defense allowed him to get behind the line backers and it was an easy walk in.

The Paladins take the ball right down the field and hitting a huge pass get it down to the 13-yard line and its first down Paladins. The Paladins after a holding penalty get the ball to the 1 and Tyler Huff takes it in and we have a touchdown Furman, with the extra point Furman 7-7 tie with 5:51 left in the game.

The Paladins are able to stop the Owls on the insuring stand and get the ball back around the 30-yard line. Tyler Huff then takes the ball 28-yards for a touchdown with 2:37 left in the half and its 14-7 Furman paladins ahead of the Kennesaw St Owls. Furman has had now 14 unanswered points and are looking to be working on all cylinders going into halftime.

Kennesaw takes the Paladins to a fourth down and has them kick away. Paladins get then down deep but Kennesaw takes the ball down the field to the Furman 21-yard line, Furman is able to get a huge sack with 10 seconds left in the half. The first half ends with Furman holding the Owls to no points after Kennesaw got the 21.

Furman after kicking off is able to keep the Owls from scoring and gets the ball back at the 17 yard line and starts its drive with several key runs by #8 Dominick Roberto getting out to mid field. The drive stalls and Furman kicks away to the Owls who get held to a 4 yard loss in downs and has to kick away to Furman. The Paladins get the ball back with 5:29 left in the third leading 14-7.
Tyler Huff hits a huge pass to Ben Ferguson #3 to the 8 yard line and its first and goal Paladins, Huff takes the ball to the 4 yard line 2nd and goal, and Huff with a QB keeper and its Touchdown Furman with 1:23 left in the third and its 21-7.

We end the third quarter with Furman leading 21-7 but the Owls hit a long pass and are on the Furman 14-yard line with a 2nd and 6 to go. Furman has been able to keep the Owls out of the end zone since the 2nd quarter. The Owls get a touchdown after a Preston Daniels runs it in and its 21-14 as Kennesaw St draws closer to the Paladins with 13:56 left in the game.

Furman takes the ball right down the field to the 14-yard line and its third down and Tyler Huff scores a TD avoiding a sack and runs to the corner and its 28-14 Furman. The following kick off the Owls go straight down the field after 3 big plays the Owls have first and goal with 9 minutes left to play. After a penalty the Owls do get the TD and its now 28-21 in the 4th quarter. The fans that are left are now getting the energy back in the game. The series was costly as two Owls lineman went down during the series.

Furman after getting the ball back is held to three and out and Kennesaw St has the ball at the 35 and misses a huge play to a wide-open receiver and Furman escapes the big play. Furman is able to hold the Owls and are going to get the ball back at the 16-yard line. With two huge plays the Owls tie the ballgame with a huge run and its 28-28 with 3:29 left in the game. The Owls have refused to give up in this game after being down two scores. Furman has to get a score to get this game back into their control. Furman will take over at the 35-yard line.

Tyler Huff hits a huge pass to the 45 of the Owls to Ben Ferguson #3, then Huff hits his TE #89 Cline. Huff then runs the ball to the eleven-yard line and its Kennesaw St taking a time out with 1:23 left in the game and Furman threatening to get the last score. So, we have 3rd and 1 with the Owls taking their final time out, this is it folks a score here and with just a 1:15, and Furman gets a yard and its 4th and 1 with under 30 seconds left as Furman will let time run out to get the field goal with 24 seconds left in the game.
Furman goes for the field goal and its up and its good for 19 yards Furman 31-28 with 21 seconds left in the game for the Owls to try and tie or get the win. Its 19 seconds left for the Owls to get down the field with no time outs. Furman gets a interception, the play is being reviewed to make sure it’s a catch. Furman has won the game with 5 seconds with a interception. Thats all folks!
