Furman Women’s Basketball Invades Gardner-Webb in Non-Conference Action
The Furman Paladins (4-3), who are looking for their second consecutive win for the first time this season, split a pair of games in Puerto Rico last week, falling to Appalachian State, 78-73, on Thursday before bouncing back to register a come-from-behind, 74-72 win over Binghamton on Saturday. Tonight face a Gardner-Webb team (0-6) looking for its first win after a three game away from home trip where they was outmatched.
Furman trailed Binghamton 47-38 at halftime but in the third quarter was able to mount a comeback en route to the win. In second half was junior forward Jayda Session, who scored 19 points and claimed a career high 16 rebounds. The Paladins got 18 points from sophomore forward S Ryan, who made all five of her 3-point attempts, and Tate Walters added in 14 points, including the game winning basket with 18 seconds remaining.
Tonight’s game is about to start, Furman is looking healthy during warm ups, both teams looking to start a win streak. Decent crowd on hand tonight to see the teams play, Gardner Webb a Big South team and of course Furman with the Southern Conference, battle of teams withing 50 miles of each other.
The first media timeout and we have a 7-0 run by Gardner-Webb and the score 11-6 with 4:39 left in the half, Kate Johnson leads Furman with 4 points and Jada Sessions with 2, and 2 rebounds.
With no time Gardner-Webb hits a huge three to end the quarter and the score 23-17 as we head to the second quarter of play.
Furman seems rattled since the break and is trying to stay focused on this game. Several team fouls on both teams and Furman gets a basket in and its 23-19 Bulldogs still in front. Furman gets a fast break and foul and its 26-22 Bulldogs still in front at the 6:26 left in the half. Furman has battled back into this game from the free throw line its now 26-26.

Furman is struggling to get a basket in at this moment and the Bulldogs are running them hard, as the score is 33-26 with 2:40 remaining in the half. Coach Curtis is really trying to get the Lady Paladins back into this game. the score is 38-30 with the half almost over, Furman has the last shot here, jump ball Furman with no shot in and its a wrap for the first half.
We was told during the halftime that the score is 40-30 Gardner Webb in the lead so two more points was added to the score. Furman with 4 points off turn overs, 12 points in the paint, 7 second chance points, 3 off the fast break, and 15 points coming off the bench. Leading score getters are Kate Johnson with 7 points and 4 rebounds, Niveya Henley 8 points 3 rebounds, and Sydney Ryan 7 points with 7 rebounds.
Furman has brought it to a 45-34 game here in quarter three with 6 minutes left. Gardner Webb is really making it hard for Furman tonight as we are in a media timeout.
Media timeout and we are at a 50-40 score here at Gardner Webb with the Bulldogs leading the lady Paladins with just over 4 minutes left in the quarter. Lady Paladins will need to somehow control the shooters for the Bulldogs shooting the three pointer.
Furman trying to battle back into this game its now 52-43 with the Bulldogs at the line and both are in. Walters is able to get fouled on the shot, misses the first and gets the second. 54-44 with a turnover by the Bulldogs. Walters back to the line after a foul, misses the first but gets the second its now just 9 point lead. Walters gets a huge layup and its 54-47 and Jada Session is shooting two as she is fouled. Webb is in huge foul trouble with its team, as Furman gets the second in 54-48 now, Furman down by 6 points as we end the quarter with a Furman charge to get within two shots.
Furman takes the lead and holds on to get a much needed two game winning streak with a 73-66 win over the Runnin Bulldogs!
