Furman Versus Liberty in First Round of Mrytle Beach Invitational
The Furman Paladins (2-0) head into a huge match up against Liberty Flames (2-0) here at the Mrytle Beach Invitational which has already had some great games played. This game many feels is a look at the Championship game on Sunday, but allot of ball to be played over the next 4 days.
Furman gets on the board first and its 3-0 and the Paladins get the game going first. The Paladins control the ball and lead 9-7 at the 12:53 mark of the first half. Liberty takes the lead after a 3 but Furman answers with a score and its 11-10.
The game has 3:41 left and the score is at 31-26 Furman in the lead with Liberty shooting a one on one coming up. Both teams have been very physical with the Paladins are winning the war in the paint 12-10 and fast breaks 5-0. As we go to the half Furman is behind the eight ball as the score is 38-33. Liberty took advantage of the paint and leads 16-12, also second chance 2-7 and the bench outscored Furman 17-5.
The score is 49-43 with the Paladins getting back into the game after Liberty came out on a 9-0 run, both teams are fouling fast as Furman is now 18-20 in the paint points. Furman scored 10 to Liberty’s 11 so far this half with 15:26 left in the game. Liberty is really hacking the Furman players under the goal. The game is going Liberty’s way to a score of 67-50 as they have hit some major 3-point plays and have pulled away as its also got very upsetting for Coach Richie called for a technical foul.
The Paladins are down 19 with a score of 78-59 as the buckets are not going in, but Liberty has been able to shoot at will no matter who is putting it up lately. Liberty is winning the play off the bench 28-5 tonight even with 11 turnovers to Furman’s 4.
With 3:03 to go Paladins are down 17, 84-67 and the Liberty Flames seem to have this game in hand at the moment. Foster has tied his career high with 28 points in the game, Pegues has 20 in the game.
The game ends with Liberty defeating Furman 88-74 with both teams back in action today, Furman will play Coastal Carolina Friday night at 9pm.
