Furman Men’s Soccer blanks Coastal Carolina on the road, 3-0
The Furman Paladins Men’s soccer team traveled to Conway, S.C. to face Coastal Carolina in Monday afternoon NCAA division one soccer action. The Paladins came out of Conway with a 3-0 shutout victory, dominating the Chanticleers on both sides of the ball.
Furman (3-2-0) broke the scoring ice with a goal in the 30th minute and never looked back, padding their lead with two second half goals as the Paladins romped on their way to the victory.
Furman midfielder Callum Allison got the Paladins on the board first, redirecting a shot from fellow Paladin midfielder Alfredo Diaz-Santillan into the back of the net to put Furman up 1-0 at the 29:54 mark.
Neither team managed to crack the scoring column again before halftime. The Paladins roared out of the break to begin the second half, as Furman midfielder Dylan Lane punched the ball into the back of the net off an assist from freshman midfielder Caleb Johnson to double up the Paladin lead at the 51:09 mark.
Mere minutes later, Lane put the game out of reach for the Paladins with a strike from the top of the box off an assist from Diaz-Santillan at the 65:26 mark.
It was a great day for both sides of the Furman attack, as freshman goalkeeper Aaron Salinas recorded his first career shutout along with 5 saves and no goals allowed.
On the other side of the pitch, Coastal Carolina goalkeeper Alex Hare had a less fortunate afternoon, surrendering 3 goals while accumulating 6 saves.
The Paladins will return home to host Gardner-Webb at 6 PM EST in Stone Soccer Stadium on Saturday evening. For more coverage of Furman Paladins athletics, be sure to follow The Furman Joust Podcast on Twitter/X, or visit our website at furmanjoust.com.
