Furman Women’s soccer shut out by #10 South Carolina, 2-0
The Furman Paladins women’s soccer squad was shut out by the number 10 nationally ranked South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia, S.C in Sunday evening NCAA Division One soccer action.
The Paladins (3-3-1) kept the match scoreless for the first 45 minutes of play, but the Gamecocks overwhelmed Furman in the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half, scoring two goals in rapid succession.
Gamecocks forward Catherine Barry got the scoring started in the 47th minute, hammering the ball into the back of the net from just outside the box at the 46:52 mark.
Barry doubled up the South Carolina lead 13 minutes later, scoring at the 58:21 mark on a well placed shot after weaving through the Paladin defense.
The Furman offense never got going in the contest as the Paladins only managed one shot on goal for the game.
While the offense may have stalled, the Furman defense held their own against the 10th best team in the nation.
Furman goalkeeper Addison Corn gave a valiant effort, finishing the game with 12 saves and only 2 goals allowed.
