Chattanooga at Furman in SoCon Battle
Intro
We are live from Furman and Chattanooga in The Bon Secour Wellness Arena. We are anticipating this matchup so much, as I am really interested to see what a post Lamont Paris Chattanooga team looks like in this matchup. We will have more to come and you can watch live on ESPN+.
1st Half Highlights
Furman wins the opening tip and has back to back FG’s from Eddrin Bronson and Garret Hien to open the game. It is an early 4-0 lead with 18 minutes to play. Furman with a turnover and three pointer from PJ Smith, JR for a 7-0 lead. Chattanooga has a turnover and Furman looks to get out to a big lead early. A foul is called on Chattanooga on a fast break. After Furman jumps out to 11-0 lead, Chattanooga finally breaks the seal on the rim with a 2 pointer. Molnar with an excellent pass on a fast break and the score goes 13-2 Furman over Chattanooga. We are cruising along in the first half and Furman still maintains a strong lead at 22-6 while shooting 58.3% from FG range and 33.3% from 3 point FG range. Chattanooga currently shooting 11.8% from FG range and 14.3% from 3 point range. Chattanooga with a nice inbound play and 2 pointer to cut the lead to 12 as they try to chip away at this deficit before half. 7 minutes to go with Furman leading 22-10. Furman with several offensive rebounds in a row to come up empty on their side of the court with 5:58 to go. Score is now 25-12 though after a Molnar 3 pointer. Things have slowed down a little bit for Furman as Chattanooga has closed the lead to 9 with just under 4 minutes to go in the first half. Latif Diouf of Chattanooga has a block that leads to a 2 pointer, and Chattanooga chips the lead to 7 points with 2:45 to play in the first half. Furman has weathered the storm with a 3 pointer from PJ Smith to maintain a 9 point lead 34-25 with 27.4 seconds to go. With the buzzer, we go to halftime at 34-27 Furman over Chattanooga.
2nd Half Highlights
Chattanooga comes out with the defense turned up a notch to open the second half, but Furman opens back up to an 11 point lead 41-30 lead with 17:07 to go. A few defensive plays and a massive dunk by Bowser to open up the scoring. Furman down to their smallest lead in a quite some time against Chattanooga with the Dins only leading by 6 with 15:45 to go. Bowser with a monster move down low and this is the best I have seen him play these two games of being here. We have a timeout in the second half with 13:48 seconds remaining and Chattanooga has closed it to a 2 point deficit against the Dins. This is getting good. We have ourselves a game here at the Well 48-43Furman leads with 11:30 to go in the second half. The struggle continues 53-48 with 9 minutes to play. Chattanooga just 18 percent from 3 whereas Furman is 39%. Defense has turned up a notch on both sides as Furman leads by 3, 55-58 with 5:34 to play. With a 10-2 point run, Chattanooga has taken their first lead of the game 65-60 with 3:24 to go. Furman has a few sloppy turnovers allowing Chattanooga to maintain their lead of 4 points with 2 minutes to play. Under 1 minute to play and Furman is down by 3 points. There is some controversy to end the game as PJ Smith, JR looks to be fouled attempting to shoot a three pointer but only awarded two free throws. Chattanooga will escape the Well with a win this evening.
