Furman and Montreat Battle
The Furman Paladins Men’s Basketball heads into tonight’s matchup against Montreat Cavaliers (9-4, 3-3 AAC) at Bob Jones University as their last non-conference game of the season. The Paladins will be without star PG PJay Smith Jr. in the game after a shoulder injury and also Charles Johnston will sit out and rest his knees.

The Paladins come to the first Media time out down 16-11 as the Cavaliers have been hitting three-point shots from everywhere and the Paladins have looked stunned by the shots being made. Paladins are shooting 56% from the field, 25% from three-point range at this point in the game as its 18-11 with 14:20 left in the half.

The media break comes with 11:34 and the Paladins are behind 20-14 and are shooting 43% from the field and 14% from three-point range so far in the game. Coach Richie has been on his team allot so far in the game for their effort at this point. We enter another timeout with 7:55 left in the half with the Paladins down 30-24 after Montreat has been hitting threes from just about anywhere. They are shooting at a huge 54% from three and are giving Furman is dominating in the paint a huge deficit to overcome.

The Paladins at the nine-minute mark have tied this game up at 30-30 and are firing away and getting the ball back on rebounds and steals are helping out the defense Coach has installed. Furman takes the lead at the four-minute mark and is up 35-30 as Anderson and VanderWal have helped lead to a media timeout.

The Paladins are now shooting 43% from the field and the three-point range is 23% after Nick Anderson has come alive for the team. Montreat has fallen down to 43% after several huge missed shots that Furman turned into points on the other end. We are now at halftime with Furman leading 44-36 and the fans are enjoying this great game and Furman going on a 23-6 run.

Furman at the 14-minute mark left in the game is ahead 70-47 and is looking more like a Bob Richie team, as Montreat has been cold shooting 16% from 3-point range while the Paladins are 66% in this half. The Paladins are up by 25 points with 12 minutes left in the game. Time out by Furman, and we see the Paladins are really getting in the flow and figuring out the Cavaliers with a 77-52 lead.

We have another timeout with 9:12 left in the game and Furman with a commanding lead 87-56 as they have kept Montreat in check and are pulling away with great defense and timely shooting. We come to a media timeout with 5 minutes left in the game and Furman is up by 31 points 93-62 over Montreat as the Cavaliers are at this point shooting 25% from 3-point range, and 38% from the field, while Furman is 39% from 3-point range and 55% from the field as everyone is getting involved for the Paladins that is dressed out.
