Mercer Invades Furman in Soccer
The Furman Paladins (7-3-3, 2-1-1 SoCon) welcome the Mercer Bears (6-4-6, 1-2-1 SoCon) to Eugene Stone Stadium for the Play for Quinn game. Furman is playing for a top seeding in the SoCon tourney next week while Mercer is looking to close out its season on a winning note.
The Mercer Bears are first on the board at 23 minutes left in the first half and we are at 1-0 Furman trailing the Bears. The Bears #2 Sekou Agard gets the score for the Bears as Furman was yelling for hand ball that wasn’t called on the play. The game goes into halftime with Mercer 1-0 still with the following stats for Furman: Furman had 9 shots on goal, 2 corner kicks, 0 saves, 10 fouls in the half. Mercer lone point came by #2 Sekou Agard at the 21:38 minute in the match. Paladin’s bench got a yellow card at the 37″38 minute.
Furman with 5:53 left in the game gets a goal and we are tied up 1-1 #6 Ivan Agyaakwah nails it past the goalie and Furman has a chance to get the win with just a few minutes left. This game is really picking up as Furman almost gets another goal on Mercer twice here at the end. The game ends in a tie with Furman and Mercer 1-1 on Play for Quinn night!
