Furman battles VMI in Football
The Furman Paladins have headed north to take on the VMI Keydats in a Southern Conference smash mouth football game with the stakes high on both of their seasons. Furman needing to get back on the winning course, and VMI searching for its first win of the season. Furman will have 3 new first time starts once again as it battles injuries this season, while VMI is looking to show it can play 4 good quarters of Football.
The Keydets jump out in the lead first on the Paladins with 11:56 left in the first quarter as the Paladins are now already behind the eight ball and will need to answer the score. The Paladins with just over 2 minutes left in the first get the score when QB Trey Hedden hits Colton Hinton for a huge TD pass and we are now tied up here at VMI with Furman now feeling they can get the job done.
The Paladins then with just under nine minutes left in the half are able to get a field goal by Ian Williams and take the lead 10-7 as the sideline is getting excited and the Furman faithful who traveled are cheering on the team. Yet, the Keydets are able to score two huge touchdowns before the half and lead going into halftime after a missed field goal by Furman 21-10.
Furman in the third quarter gets a huge touchdown when backup QB Carson Jones throws to Brock Chappell and the Paladins are now inching closer to getting back into this game.

Furman after several chances does not get back in the endzone and ends up with a 21-17 loss at VMI, and now can consider this a year of learning for one of the youngest teams in the country. There will be lots of questions for Head Coach Clay Hendrix going into the final home games of the season versus Wofford this coming Saturday.
