Furman Soccer

The Furman Women’s Soccer team went into the SoCon Tourney as one of the best teams in the conference. Friday night they came out kicking as they beat ETSU 2-1 in front of a great crowd in Samford Soccer Stadium.

The scoring started when at the 41st minute Valentina Mosquera took a great pass by Shania Diaz and nails the kick past a ETSU goalkeeper to make it 1-0 as we head into halftime. The Paladins with great defense would keep ETSU at bay before getting the next goal at the 70th minute when Tara Katz gets by the ETSU defense and nails the goal to make it 2-0 Furman in the lead. ‘It feels great to get the victory,” said Paladin head coach Andrew Burr. “We are playing our best soccer of the year at the right time. We’ve talked with our team all season about playing our best for three straight matches in November and we started well tonight.”

ETSU would get a goal in the 77th minute to make it 2-1 but would not be able to get anything else as the Furman defense seals the deal and the Paladins advance in the SoCon tournament. They will now await their opponent Samford for the semifinals on Sunday at 2pm. make sure to follow the Paladins trip to the SoCon title here with Furman Joust and also on furmanpaladins.com.
