Furman Battles USC in Women’s Soccer
The Furman Women’s Soccer rolls into Columbia tonight to face the top ranked USC Gamecocks in a game that will show where Furman stands. Furman has three hurt players coming into tonight’s game so it will be up to allot of youth and luck to get the win tonight.
Furman starts a good group with Forwards Jenny Jacobson & Nieva Gaither, Mid Fielders Helen Gutierrez, Tara Katz, Sarah Sexton, Shania Diaz, Ellie Herrmann. Defenders will be Katie Bengough, Miya Poplin, and Ava King with Addison Corn in Goal tonight. The Game starts with a Gamecock score quick and Furman feels the crowd noise fast with a 1-0 lead by Carolina by Katie Shea Collins unassisted. It was the second fastest goal in Gamecock history.
Furman Women’s Soccer gets a goal when Sara Sexton gets past the goalie and hits the 1-1 goal and Furman is back in this game.
South Carolina takes back the lead and its 2-1 Carolina in front of the Paladins with 22 minutes left to play in the first half.
Hat Trick and this game is getting away from the Paladins at the moment its 4-1 as the Gamecocks fans are here in force and the team is feeling the energy.
We have under two minutes to go, and we are still at 4-1 with Furman actually getting the ball and staying in Gamecock side of the field. We are at halftime and Furman trails the USC Gamecocks 4-1 here at Stone stadium on the campus of USC.
We return from halftime and so far both teams are playing safe, no scores and we are at the 33 minute mark left in the game.
Furman has held serve versus the gamecocks in the second half with 21 minutes left in the game. Carolina has 13 shots on goal to Furman with 4 so far in the game. Forward Jenny Jacobson has taken a beating tonight playing for the ball.
The Gamecocks battle down at the goal with 7 minutes to play to make it 5-1. With under 3 minutes left in the game Furman is trying its best to get a goal in on USC and finally gets a corner kick. The game ends with the Gamecocks winning 5-1 over our Furman Paladins.
