Furman Football Head Coach Clay Hendrix and his talented team of stars hit the field today to start fall practice for the up-and-coming season. Coach was interviewed right before practice and was quickly asked about the state of the team, and what battles he is going to be watching. Furman had lost a huge class of talent last year, maybe the biggest class to leave the team ever.

The lucky thing for Furman is Coach has played allot of this year’s talent in games last year knowing he was going to have this issue the media and fans would point out. Furman has a new group of talented players that entered either by high school or the portal. Several key positions will be looked at over the next few weeks but none more than the Quarterback position. Let’s take a look at who and what they mean to the team this year:

#5 Carson Jones 6’2 204lbs R-So Maryville, Tenn

Carson is at the moment penciled in as starting QB after coming in last year when Tyler Huff went out with an injury and lead Furman to the SoCon Championship with only one loss to Wofford in the last game of the year. Carson has been great for the Paladins so far and would really have to struggle during fall ball and the opening games to be replaced in my opinion. he has great knowledge of the offense and will still have a chance to make even more strides at Furman.

#8 Trey Hedden 6’3 231lbs FR Tampa FL

Trey is a highly talented 3-star QB who brings Furman a huge look at its future. In todays practice the touch he has on the ball and the vision is all there. He looked great so far calling plays, making sure everyone was in the right spot, and had very few errors. I also know this could all change as more fall practice is done, but so far he is ahead of schedule and will push for playing time against Carson.

#4 Nehuel Garcia 6’3 202lbs R-Fr La Mirada, CA

Nehuel last year in practice showed great strides, and also showed some great touch with his passing game. he was redshirted last year and got very little looks but has a chance to stay in the QB battle through the fall.

#9 Isaac Ward 5’11 185lbs Gr Athens, GA

#14 Luke Hendrick 5’11 190lbs Orlando, FL

#19 Dixon Massingill 6’3 180lbs R-So Greer, SC

Our final three QB’s will be battling to be the backup to the above 3 QB’s mentioned, yet still have a shot to make more noise and move up the ladder. Practice squad is more than likely where they might land, but for certain the Quarterback room is full of talent from top to bottom. Coach Hendrix and his offense staff have a great problem to have going into the season, now its just watching to see who emerges from the fire. Its almost a certain we will see two to three QB’s versus Ole Miss if the game gets out of hand so they can see where the top 3 stand against a top ranked SEC team.
