Furman Lacrosse Battles Mercer Bears for 1st Place in the Big South
The Mercer bears start off fast and get a goal first and make it 1-0 when #10 Ansley Walters gets the goal. Furman doesn’t back down and after several back and fourths they are able to get a score when #17 Paige Harmen gets the first goal for Furman with an assist from #15 Sophie Shaw. Mercer is able to get three more goals and make it 4-1 with 8 minutes left in the first period.
Anna Roser gets her first goal of the game as we get to a 4-2 lead by Mercer Bears with 4:16 left in the first period. Anna Roser gets yet another goal as we get to the 1-minute left in the period mark. Paige Harman gets her second goal and we are tied with 7 seconds left in the period. Time runs out and we are all tied at 4-4.
Furman Lacrosse gets a huge goal when #17 Paige Harman gets a score after a assist from #14 Reynolds Hester and its now 5-4 Furman ahead. Mercer gets a huge score when #10 Ansley Walters ties it up. Mercer addss two more goals and now its 8-5 lead over Furman with 9:40 left before halftime. The Paladins score when #7 gets it in Hannah Dintino to make it 8-6. Mercer quickly gets the goal to make it 9-6 and we have a goalie change for the Paladins #28 Sailor Henderson.
Furman gets another goal from Mia Falco and its 9-8 Mercer still ahead with 2:28 left in the first half. Furman is hanging strong and gets a goal as #1 Sophia Buzelis gets her first of the game. She has played great defense all game and she ties the game at 9-9 with two minutes to go.
We are under 5 minutes left in the game and Mercer has a 15-11 lead over the Lady Paladins, the Paladins have played hard and kept it close tonight. Failed clear and Mercer gets another goal and its 16-11 with 3 minutes left in the game. Mercer gets one more goal for good measure and its 17-11 with just over a minute to go.
