Furman MBB falls just short in 2OT thriller at Tulane

The Furman Paladins made the long trip to New Orleans, LA on Thursday night to face the Tulane Green Wave in non-conference NCAA division one men’s basketball action.

While the Paladins (5-6) may not have been able to knock off the Green Wave (7-2) on their home court, they certainly put up a fight, forcing double overtime before eventually falling by a final score of 117-110 after a Tulane run put the game on ice in the second overtime period.

Furman guard J.P. Pegues paced the Paladins with 29 points while fellow starters Alex Williams and Pjay Smith each contributed 23 points. Pegues led Furman in the assist category, dishing out 6 on the night while Williams grabbed a team high 7 rebounds in the contest.

Tulane guard Jalen Forbes led the Green Wave with 26 points and forward Kevin Cross slotted in just behind his teammate with 25 points of his own. Cross turned in a triple double in the game, posting a 25/12/12 line along with 6 steals. On the opposite side of the Tulane frontcourt, Collin Hollaway posted a double double with 18 points and 10 boards.

The Paladins will return home to Timmons Arena to host the Presbyterian Blue Hose next Tuesday looking to improve to .500 heading into an 11 day Christmas break between games against the Blue Hose on December 19th and the Anderson Trojans on Dec 30th.
